The electric vehicle (EV) market has gone from strength to strength - so much so that the recent Frankfurt Motor show was saturated by them. This stems from a combination of high demand and also the governments want to reduce harmful emissions. The increase in sales of hybrid and electric vehicles, and with diesel/petrol cars coming under pressure, really foreshadows the future of motoring. Right now, hybrid engines are all the rage, however it is difficult to see how EVs won't take over the driving landscape!
EVs began with limited ranges of quality. Now, in 2017, things are much better. Times are changing, with EVs offering higher quality across the board. The Nissan Leaf has revolutionised the electric vehicle market and was an instant success with its family friendly layout. It hit the showrooms back in 2010 and has since become one of the very best EVs.
The Frankfurt Motor Show highlighted the amount of brands that now have their own EVs. The likes of Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, Citroen and Volkswagen have all jumped on the bandwagon. BMW have created their own EV sub-brand, and even Bentley have started to develop their own EVs.
The pros of driving an electric vehicle:
- Zero emissions
- Low running costs
- Tax benefits
- Buying incentives
- Charging is easy
The cons of driving an electric vehicle:
- Charging points
- Charging times
- Battery range
- Purchase price
- Driving fun
- Weather impact
The Zap-Map is also a fantastic resource for those using an EV - it shows all of the available charging ports around the UK and can be accessed here.
